The first time we contacted this goose farm in the heart of the Extremadura countryside, we told Eduardo, the owner, that we wanted to visit him with a group of classic cars. He had no idea what we were talking about. “This is a farm, not a tourist attraction!” he said. But he eventually agreed to welcome us… and what a fantastic and fun place to visit and enjoy lunch! Almonaster will be one of our recommended stops on today’s road route, before we get to the country house where lunch will be served for our group and where you will taste the best Spanish Iberico ham (and more), as we will be very close to Jabugo, the most prestigious denomination of origin of Iberico products.

      • May 14, 2027
      • Day 7
The Riotinto Mining Park is a 5,000-year-old mining area with truly otherworldly landscapes. The ground glows in vivid shades of red, yellow and ochre, while a striking red river winds its way through the valley. The area has even attracted NASA’s interest because of its similarities to the surface of Mars. Copper, silver and iron have been mined here since ancient times, including the Roman period. You can still see old Roman water wheels in the museum. The British also left their mark on Riotinto when a British company took over the mining operations in 1873, building a Victorian-style village and helping introduce football to Spain. Just 20 miles south of our hotel, Riotinto offers a fascinating day of exploration. Our visit will include a ride on a vintage train along the river and past the old mining facilities, a view of the enormous Corta Atalaya, one of Europe’s most impressive open-pit mines, and much more. We’ll also try to obtain special permission to take our classic cars to a beautiful spot beside a disused railway station for a group picture… on Mars!

Today’s beautiful drive will be mostly through this scenery, which is typical from Extremadura. Today we will arrive to Trujillo, a monumental town with narrow streets and a beautiful main square which is a pleasure for a walk, and maybe a drink, before dinner, which will take place at the Parador where the stay will be for the next two nights.
